What to Expect at Vitalitas Denver

If you are considering ketamine therapy, we want the process to be understandable and clear, from consult to follow-up.

You will know what happens first, what treatment days are like, and how to plan for the rest of the day after treatment.

OUR PROCESS

Consult

We review your symptoms, history, medications, and goals to see whether ketamine therapy is a fit.

Plan

If it is, we build a plan based on your clinical picture, setting clear expectations from the start.

Treat

Treatment visits are medically supervised and monitored, with simple aftercare and follow-up along the way.

we’re here to make the process clear, comfortable, and tailored to you.

The First Steps In Care

The Consultation

We review your history, current symptoms, medications, and what you have already tried.

You will have time to ask questions, talk through concerns, and understand the next step.

Your Treatment Plan

If treatment is appropriate, we outline a plan based on your needs, condition, and clinical history.

Your plan is structured, but not one-size-fits-all. We adjust based on response, tolerance, and safety.

Preparing for Your Visit

What to Bring

Bring anything that helps you feel comfortable during your visit. Many people enjoy headphones or an eye mask—we have blankets, but you can bring your own if you prefer.

If you wear glasses, use hearing aids, or have a comfort item that helps you settle, bring those with you.

visit guidance

Before your visit, we will send clear guidance so you know what to do and what to expect.

If you are unsure about medications, preparation, or timing, contact the clinic ahead of time and we will walk you through it.

Aftercare plan

Try to keep the rest of the day light and low-pressure after your visit.

Avoid alcohol, intense work, and major decisions until things have fully settled. A quieter evening and a lighter schedule usually help support recovery.

Your First Visit

Arrival

Plan to arrive a few minutes early. The Locations page offers parking and entry details for the clinic you are visiting.

When you arrive, our team will help you get checked in, settled, and comfortable.

01

Treatment

Your infusion is supervised by a physician-led team, with vital signs and comfort monitored throughout treatment.

Our team stays close by, checks in as needed, and helps you stay safe and supported throughout the visit.

02

Recovery

After the infusion, you will have time to recover before you leave. Ketamine wears off relatively quickly, but you may still feel tired, quiet, foggy, or a little unsteady afterward.

Your team will make sure you are ready to go before you leave the clinic.

03

aftercare

Plan on having a driver—ride shares are okay for shorter infusions, but longer treatments require a friend or family member to get you home.

Most people do best with a low-demand day and a quiet evening. Avoid intense work, high-stakes conversations, and major decisions.

04

AFTER TREATMENT

The goal for the next day is simple: let your system recover and integrate without adding extra load.

Plan for hydration, nourishment, and a lighter schedule. If something feels off, contact our team.

MORE COMMON QUESTIONS

  • For mental health treatment, the infusion itself typically takes about 40 minutes. Most visits last longer than that once you account for getting settled, monitoring during treatment, and a recovery period afterward.

Pain treatments are longer and tailored to your needs. Read more about our approach to pain treatment and schedule a consult if you still have questions.

  • Ketamine has been used in medical settings for decades as an anesthetic and pain medication. At Vitalitas, it is used in sub-anesthetic doses and administered in a medically supervised setting with screening, monitoring, and follow-up built in. As with any treatment, safety depends on the right patient, the right setting, and the right clinical oversight, which is why screening and monitoring come first.

  • Yes. A physician anesthesiologist is present during treatment and closely monitors each infusion. That level of oversight is a core part of how Vitalitas approaches safety.

  • We begin by reviewing your medical history and treatment plan. On treatment day, we place an IV and monitor your heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure, and oxygen level throughout the infusion. You will be awake during treatment, and most people spend that time resting quietly or listening to music.

Afterward, we continue monitoring you before discharge.

  • No. You will need a responsible adult to drive you home after your infusion. It’s okay to take a ride share with 40-minute and two-hour infusions, but any longer appointments require a friend or family member to take you home.

You should also avoid driving, operating heavy machinery, or making important decisions for the rest of the day.

  • In many cases, yes. You should not stop your prescribed medications on your own in order to pursue treatment. We review your current medication list carefully before treatment begins and let you know if anything needs to be adjusted.

Lamictal and Benzodiazepines are medications we may consider holding during IV ketamine treatments, depending on your medical history.

  • It is different for everyone, but many people describe treatment as dreamlike, calming, or a little unusual. You may feel more inward, less connected to your surroundings, or more aware of shifts in sensation and perception during the infusion. Your team is there throughout to monitor you, answer questions, and help you feel safe and supported.

  • Yes, but you will need to follow specific pre-visit instructions. Vitalitas asks patients not to eat solid food, milk, soup, or pulp-filled juices for six hours before treatment.

Clear liquids like water, Gatorade, apple juice, black coffee, or tea are typically allowed up to two hours beforehand. You may also receive additional guidance about medications or preparation before your visit.

WE’re here when you’re ready.

You do not have to figure this out on your own. If you still need a clearer sense of what treatment involves and what comes next, we are here to help.
