A Partner For Complex Cases
For patients who have not found enough relief through standard treatment, Vitalitas offers thoughtful evaluation, physician-led care, and carefully monitored ketamine therapy.
Condition-Specific Information
-
Treatment-resistant depression refers to cases where the patient has not gotten enough relief after trying at least two different classes of antidepressant medication, or has been unable to tolerate standard medications because of side effects.
Care often begins with a six-infusion series, followed by a review of response before any maintenance plan is recommended. Ongoing treatment decisions are individualized and guided by patient-reported benefit, internal tracking tools, and clinical judgment.

-
We explore IV ketamine for anxiety symptoms that continue to interfere with daily life, when standard treatment has not helped enough or has been difficult to tolerate.
Care typically begins with a structured infusion series in a calm, medically monitored setting, with next steps guided by the patient’s response, symptom pattern, safety, and clinical judgment.
-
PTSD can involve intrusive memories, avoidance, changes in mood or thinking, and intense emotional reactions that continue to disrupt daily life even after therapy, medication, or other support.
Vitalitas evaluates PTSD with attention to the patient’s trauma history, current symptoms, prior treatment, and referring provider’s recommendations. Care is physician-led and medically monitored, with treatment and maintenance planning guided by symptom response, trigger patterns, overall functioning, and clinical judgment.
-
Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition involving intrusive, unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviors or mental rituals that can become difficult to interrupt.
Vitalitas may consider IV ketamine intervention when OCD symptoms remain disruptive despite conservative treatment, or when the broader clinical picture suggests it may be a reasonable next step.
OCD infusions often differ from those for other mental health conditions; care may require more individualized dosing, careful response tracking, and maintenance planning based on symptom change, tolerance, and clinical judgment.
Pre-Referral Considerations
Clinical Readiness
A referral is most useful when a patient has tried and failed at least two different classes of antidepressants or is unable to tolerate side effects.
If the patient is in acute crisis, urgent stabilization should come first. Referral can be reconsidered once stable.
Patient Expectations
Ketamine therapy is not a standalone cure. It is a medically supervised treatment that may reduce symptoms and support ongoing care.
Response varies, and eligibility is determined through screening.

COMMON QUESTIONS
-
Referral may be appropriate for patients with significant mental health symptoms that have not improved enough with standard treatment. This includes but is not limited to treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and postpartum depression.
-
If you are unsure whether a patient may be a fit or have questions about the process, Vitalitas is happy to consult provider-to-provider. If you don’t have questions, simply send the Acknowledgement of Ongoing Care form so our team can begin intake.
Once a patient moves into intake, Vitalitas reviews their history, symptoms, current medications, prior treatment, and overall clinical context. From there, we assess whether ketamine therapy may be appropriate and communicate next steps clearly.
-
Vitalitas is designed to support ongoing care, not replace it. With patient authorization, we coordinate with the patient’s psychiatrist, therapist, nurse practitioner, primary care provider, or other treating clinician.
Providers can refer by phone, email, or fax, and we are happy to speak directly when questions come up. After the initial treatment series, we send a follow-up letter with the treatment plan, dose information, response to care, and recommended next steps.
For ongoing patients, we also send yearly updates and reach out sooner if there are concerns that need shared attention, such as unexpected side effects or changes in the patient’s clinical picture.
-
Safety starts before a patient ever receives an infusion. Vitalitas reviews each patient’s medical history, mental health history, medications, and overall clinical context to make sure treatment is appropriate before care moves forward.
During treatment, every infusion is monitored by a physician-led team. Vitalitas has a physician at each location, with registered nurses, paramedics, or other trained clinical staff supporting care throughout the visit. Patients are monitored closely during the infusion, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, and the clinic has oxygen, emergency medications, and appropriate safety equipment available if needed.
Because ketamine is an anesthetic medication, Vitalitas takes dosing and monitoring seriously. Treatment plans are individualized, and the team adjusts care based on the patient’s needs, response, tolerance, vital signs, and clinical judgment. The goal is to provide treatment in a setting that feels calm and comfortable while maintaining a high medical standard.
-
Ketamine is best discussed as a treatment option that may help reduce symptoms and improve quality of life, not as a cure or one-time fix. Many patients who come to Vitalitas have been struggling for years and have already tried medication, therapy, or other treatments without enough relief.
We encourage honest, grounded expectations. Some patients notice improvement quickly, but the larger changes often happen across the initial treatment series. If treatment is helpful, many patients continue with maintenance infusions at an interval that fits their response.
It can also be helpful to reassure patients that care at Vitalitas is medically monitored, individualized, and designed to support the treatment they are already receiving. We encourage patients to stay connected with their therapist, psychiatrist, prescribing provider, or broader care team before, during, and after treatment.
